Where do I find technical support?
For technical support, browse through the FAQ section, view our user manuals or simply send us an e-mail.

How can the products be customized?
Our products can be customized with calibration outside of standard ranges and with different text on the housing.
On our product pages we state the standard calibration ranges available but calibration outside of these values is possible. Please let our customer service know about your calibration requirements.
For recapture and return purposes, customers can define their own text on the housings. Please send in your customized text when placing an order.

My logger is calibrated for a certain pressure. What is the maximum pressure tolerance for the membranes?
Maximum pressure tolerance of the loggers depends on the chosen pressure limit and the size of the tag.

What is the first pressure calibration point for my loggers?
In the following table you can see the first calibration points (under water, relative to atmospheric pressure) for different pressure ranges for all DST loggers.

Pressure Range (m)
1st calibration point (bar)
1st calibration point (cm/m)
20 0,01 10cm
30 0,01 10cm
50 0,01 10cm
100* 0,01* 10cm*
150 0,1 1m
270/300 0,1 1m
500 0,5 5m
800 0,5 5m
1000 0,5 5m
1500 0,5 5m
2000 1 10m
3000 1 10m

*For DST CT(D) the first calibration point for the 100 m loggers is in 1 meter depth (0,1 bar).

Which conductivity range should I choose?
We offer three conductivity ranges, type 1 (3 to 37 mS/cm), type 2 (13 to 50 mS/cm) and type L (0.3 to 5 mS/cm). You can calculate the correct conductivity range with our conductivity calculator. Conductivity is a combination of salinity and temperature. The DST CTD and the DST CT are basically conductivity recorders from which the salinity is calculated. To view the graphical display of the connection between conductivity, salinity and temperature for each conductivity type, click on the type names above.

I cannot establish any communication between the tag and the PC. What should I do?
First check if all cables are properly connected, you should also update your software to the newest version. The Communication Box has three diodes. The red diode shows that power is fed from the power supply to the Communication Box. The yellow diode shows that the software has made connection with the box and that correct COM port has been selected. The green diode shows that the logger is in correct position for seeking connection. The red and yellow diodes must be on to get the green diode lit.
If you have the older version of the Communication Box, you can try to turn the logger in the Communication Box to find a spot with a better signal.
If you are still having problems after this, please view the user manual or contact our customer service.

If I cannot connect my tag to a PC/my tag is broken, is all my data lost?
If you cannot connect to your tag any data measurements are still saved in the logger‘s memory, as long as the logger was started in SeaStar/Mercury/FoodStar and has no significant physical damage. You will need to send us your tag for data retrieval.

The PC I started my loggers with is not available. Can I upload the recorded data to another PC?
Recorded data from the recorder can be uploaded to any computer where the application software SeaStar/Mercury/FoodStar is installed.

Can I use my new tags with an older Communication Box?
In February 2008 Star-Oddi upgraded its Communication Box for the centi size for faster download/upload speed. Communication boxes that were produced before this time are not compatible with tags produced today. If you would like to know if your Communication Box will work with your newly ordered centi loggers you can check the serial number on the box housing. If the number starts with C7 you will be able to keep your old Communication Box. Please note that this only applies to Communication Boxes for centi sized tags.
In 2010 Star-Oddi upgraded its communication boxes to improve communication with its tags. They now have a coil in the bottom and almost all of our tags are manufactured for use with the new boxes, this does not apply to DST CTD and DST CT. You can recognise which tags are for the new boxes from a black ring placed on them.

Can I use the Communication Box that I bought for my centi sized tags, also for smaller sizes?
No. The Communication Box has to fit the loggers‘ size exactly. This means, that even though smaller tags would fit into the Communication Box you won‘t be able to use them together. For milli sized tags you will need a milli Communication Box and for micro sized tags you will need a Micro Communication Box.

Can my product be recalibrated? What do I have to do?
Yes, we do carry out recalibration for our products. Please contact us for further instructions and price.

I do not understand the principle of the Logic feature. Can you explain it?
The Logic feature was developed as a memory saving feature. The user can choose a certain pressure (depth) limit where the logger starts/stops recording. The logger is in sleep mode when above/below the predetermined pressure.
If you choose the Logic feature for your logger all parameter measurements are recorded at the same time – primary and secondary parameter settings with different measurement intervals are not possible. The logic feature can be applied on DST centi-ex, DST CTD, DST centi-TD and DST pitch & roll.

Is the extended memory feature available for all DSTs? How much can I increase the memory space in my logger?
Memory extension is possible for centi and milli sizes.
For centi size a memory increase to 523,800 measurements is possible. This feature is available for DST centi-T and DST centi-TD.
For the milli size memory can be increased by replacing the EEPROM memory with a FLASH memory that has a capacity for 682,000 measurements in total. Flash memory is available for DST milli-T, DST milli-TD and DST milli-L.
If you are interested in a memory extension please mention it in your request and we can include it in our quote.

Where do I find updates for my software?
You can find the latest updates to your software under Online Support > Software Updates.

Do I have access to reference/previous studies where Star-Oddi products have been used?
We currently have studies in the field of Aquatic and Fisheries Research
