Star-Oddi product range
The Data Storage Tags (DST) - also known as archival tags – have been developed and manufactured since 1993. The DST is a miniature underwater data logger available with sensors such as temperature, depth, salinity, tilt, compass and acoustic listening (GPS). The DST data logger stores the measured data in its internal memory. After the measuring period the data is uploaded into a PC computer where data is viewed in graphs and tables in the SeaStar software.
Originally designed as an electronic fish tag, the DST is also widely used as a submersible data logger for environmental monitoring on moorings, attached to deployment lines or for studies on fishing gear and underwater research equipments, collecting valuable research data.
For tagging fish and marine animals the DST can be applied externally or internally. The DST housing is made of alumina, a biocompatible ceramics material that is not recognized as a foreign object by the receiving organism. It is ideal for implantation as the animal accepts the tag as an organ and forms tissues around it. For recapture purposes the customer can choose text on the housing of the tag, giving fishermen information on where to return the tag, reward for return (if any) etc. The non-transparent housing ensures that the sunlight does not affect the temperature measurements providing more reliable data.

Star-Oddi has developed Underwater Tagging Equipment (UTE) which is unique in that it can tag fish without bringing them to the surface. Since deepwater fish species cannot survive being brought to the surface for tagging and release, little information exists on their behavior. Star-Oddi has the solution with the pioneering UTE where tagging is performed underwater at great depths. The UTE is a proven technology that has been used for tagging redfish (sebastes mentella) since 2003.

Easy to use
Using Star-Oddi data loggers is simple and quick. The recordes are supported by the product software SeaStar and the Communication Box, which works as an interface between the loggers and the computer. Through SeaStar the loggers can be programmed prior to recording. After the measuring period retrieved data can be viewed and analyzed both in graphical and tabular form. Data can be exported into other programs such as Microsoft Excel. When data has been retrieved the loggers can easily be reset for new recordings.
