Spring is nearly here!
After a long winter, Icelanders are ready for spring. One of the first signs of spring in Iceland is the return of the numerous migratory bird species that breed in Iceland over the summer.
The Golden plover (Pluvialis apricaria), or lóa in Icelandic, is one of the very first signs of spring in Iceland. So much so that it warrants an article in the local papers.
In 2024 the first lóa was spotted March 22nd in Iceland which has put a smile on many Icelander's faces.
