Description
Compact and durable
The ruggedly designed and compact water level logger has an anodized aluminium housing, ideal for use in freshwater. Dimensions are 197 mm x 40 mm. For use in oceans or saltwater environments the titanium version is recommended. A calibration certificate is delivered with each instrument.
Application
The Starmon TD is ideal for both profiling and long-term temperature and water level monitoring in rivers, lakes and lagoons:
- Aquatic research - long term stationary monitoring or surveying
- Depth monitoring on submersible gear – both for scientific and commercial use
Fast and accurate
The temperature sensor has a fast response of 2 seconds time constant. The depth sensor has immediate response. Depth accuracy is +/-0.3% of full range. The minimum pressure/depth sensor has calibration up to 50 m, giving depth resolution of 0.5 cm and accuracy +/-15 cm. Sampling intervals are user programmable.
Long life replaceable battery and large memory
The replaceable battery typically has a long life of over 10 years. Actual lifetime depends on sampling interval used and frequency of use. Memory size is 8.4 million recordings per sensor, total of 16.8 million recordings. Battery is replaceable.
Easy to attach to gear
For flexible mounting, Starmon TD has an attachment hole and two slots for strapping to moorings and deployment lines.
Using the logger
Simple in Use, From Setup to Data Retrieval
The logger and the accompanying items are designed for ease of use throughout the research process, from setting up the recorder, attaching it, to retrieving and analysing the data. The logger is supported by the SeaStar software and a standard USB cable which have to be purchased with the first order.
Setting up the Logger
To launch the time depth recorder for measuring, the end cap of the housing is unscrewed and a USB cable connects directly from the recorder to a PC computer. In the SeaStar software, the user sets the start time, start date and sampling interval before starting the recorder in measurement mode. The logger synchronizes its internal clock with the date & time on the computer being used.
Memory and Battery Life Calculations
The software automatically calculates when memory fills based on certain interval settings, making it easier for the user to decide how to program the logger. Estimation on battery consumption during the time period is also calculated. It is also possible to have the software do memory and battery calculations for a specific measuring period.
Uploading the Data
After recovering the logger device, it is connected via the USB cable to the PC and the recorded data is uploaded to the software. The results are displayed both in graphic and tabular form and the data can be exported to other programs. The time series data shows each measurement with its own time stamp.
Low energy consumption
After data retrieval the logger can be restarted or put into sleep mode for later use. Battery life estimation is always reported upon connection with the logger. Due to the low energy consumption circuitry design the battery life is long, but the lifetime depends on usage and sampling interval used.

Accessories
USB Cable

To connect to the data logger a standard USB cable is needed. The USB cable is purchased with the first order. The cable connects between the recorder and a PC computer.

SeaStar software

The SeaStar software for Windows is needed to operate the logger. Data is displayed in a graph and table. The time series data file can be opened in other programs. An installation product key is provided when ordering the software, for online downloading. All updates are free of charge.

Stainless Steel Housing

For more flexible mounting options and protection of the data logger a stainless steel housing is available. It is ideal for securely fastening the temperature depth measuring device to subsea gear.
