Star-Oddi Ltd.

Star-Oddi was founded in Iceland in 1985, it has since its inception been a leading developer and manufacturer of technology used in aquatic and fisheries research. Over the years we have found use for our products in other industries e.g. pharmaceutical, food and beverage.

In 1993 we developed and started manufacturing the Data Storage Tag (DST) which is a miniature data logger. It was originally designed as a small fish data logger in cooperation with marine research institutes, for tagging species such as cod and halibut, collecting information on behavior of commercial and valuable species. The loggers are also used in various other underwater researches as well as in pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries. The DST is exceptionally well suited for any research involving living subjects because of its biocompatible ceramic material. It‘s not recognized by the animal’s body as a foreign material and therefore lowers mortality rates due to rejection.

In 2003 we launched our Underwater Tagging Equipment; this is a unique product on the market today because it has the ability to tag fish underwater. The fish is tagged in its natural environment and doesn‘t have to survive the trip to the surface, reducing mortality rate from pressure change.

Star-Oddi has a wide product range of loggers that measure;temperature, depth, pressure, salinity, conductivity, tilt and magnetic field strength. These products have been used for a wide range of studies e.g. fish migration, fishing gear, oceanography, borehole monitoring, toxicology studies, drug development and pasteurization measurements.

We continuously work on improving our current products to better meet the needs of our customers. We focus our R&D efforts on developing new products that offer solutions not previously available to our customers.

We have received awards for our innovations:

       Ielandic Fisheries Award in 2005 for Outstanding Icelandic Supplier and Catching and Research Equipment

     Icelandic Centre for Research and Trade Council of Iceland for 2006 Innovation Award

     One of our employees won the Icelandic Centre for Research and Trade Council of Iceland for 2010 Innovation Award

     One  of our employees won the Trade Councils of Iceland 2010 award for Best Export Marketing Plan
